JAZZ DANCE I – IV

Emphasizes beginner to advanced study of jazz dance techniques, consisting of a structured warm-up, center work, locomotor movement, and jazz dance combinations set to contemporary jazz music. Upper levels are designed for the performance-oriented student.

BALLET I – IV

Emphasizes beginner to advanced study of classical ballet techniques consisting of a barre warm-up and center work, including adage, allegro, jumps, turns, and locomotor movement.

MODERN DANCE I – IV

Beginning levels emphasize the study of modern dance as performance art consisting of basic dance technique, fundamental rhythms, and elements of dance design. Upper levels emphasize dance techniques for the performance-oriented student.

HIP HOP I – IV

Integrates a beginner to advanced-intermediate structured warm-up and theoretical explanation of weight, alignment, rhythmic components, and interpretation of style. Presents urban street dance in a step-by-step format designed to increase stamina, stress motor memory, and teach ethnic style.

TAP DANCE I – IV

Lower levels emphasize the study of beginning to advanced-beginning tap techniques to instill musicality and creativity consisting of center, across-the-floor, and dance combinations. Upper levels emphasize the study of intermediate to advanced-intermediate tap dance skills to focus on clarity, musicality, and creativity.

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY I – IV

Lower levels introduce the performance-oriented dancer to the elements of choreography through creating and participating in short dance studies. A performance of student choreography at end of the semester is required. Upper levels reach an in-depth survey and analysis of dance movement potential and creative development of the choreographic dance process.

DANCE REHEARSAL WORKSHOP I – IV

Enrollment subject to assessment of ability to perform choreography. Assessment will be conducted the first week of class meeting. Emphasizes a beginning to progressive learning and rehearsing or choreographing of dances to be selected for performance in annual dance production. Attendance of scheduled rehearsals is required.

DANCE PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP I – IV

Enrollment subject to assessment of ability to perform choreography. Assessment will be conducted the first week of class meeting. Emphasizes the rehearsal and performance of dances selected for performance in semi-annual dance production and the learning of the fundamentals of staging dance and dance performance. Requires attendance at rehearsals and performances.
